The eight new birds tagged this summer have now been named, and already some are starting their migrations southwards. This year the names have been taken from throughout the range, and more details on each can be seen under the Meet the Birds menu..
…from the June tagging near Abay:
Maysa (Arabic for ‘graceful’) – female (this is the female with chicks who was caught while attacking “Brookie” the fake owl)
…from the June tagging near Zhanteke:
Canan (Turkish for ‘beloved’) – female
Kiryl (Russian for ‘noble’) – male
…from the July tagging near Aktybek:
Tesfaye (Amharic for ‘my hope’) – male
Sanjar (Azeri for ‘prince’) – male
…from the July tagging near Arykty:
Ajaz (Urdu for ‘miracle’) – male
…from the July tagging near Toganas:
Nikoo (Persian for ‘beautiful’) – female
Vyan (Gujarati for ‘air’) – male
And let’s not forget that Shirin is still transmitting from spring, so we have a total of nine birds to follow.
Five of the birds have started moving, and these can be seen on the map below (Canan – purple, Vyan – red, Nikoo – green, Tesfaye – brown, Sanjar – blue). As Nikoo and Vyan were tagged in the same location, it appears that some of her data are currently missing – to be investigated!
